Thankyou to those whom attended last night ...

To be honest I have been a Mumford & Sons sceptic and hadn't even read through the material prior to last nights ''LINN LOUNGE'' event , though I have tried many times to enjoy them . Last night changed all that and you got to give it to LINN, this is a great concept!  It's easy to be cynical of an English band playing American music but as they express themselves, they are just playing the instruments they like and the music they like ... doing what they enjoy! For me that ''broke the ice'' and dropped my guard so I actually listened to the lyrical content, the musicianship, both individually and as a band, but what really hit me last night was ''wal'', he can really sing, he means it and he's going for it''. You can kind of guess where this band is going so yip, I 'now' love 'Babel' but I'm super excited to see how they can develop ... bring on the next album! YouTube let us down on o

Day 06: My Top 10 albums of all time in no particular order ..

The first song I ''really'' learned to play on guitar was from Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here but their greatest album and surely an inclusion in anybodies top 10 is ''The Wall'' It's hard to believe 'a band' made this album and it's harder to believe that another band can make something as good as this in the future. Bands were better back in the day ... this is proof ... There is no point me babbling on about it. Well .. Ok ... just a little bit  ''It's a complete life philosophy in a double album, it's all you need ... a passive education that leads you into thoughtful consideration of 'life' in society, how to chose your path and think about the implications of different 'paths' may have ... '' May 'The Wall' will live forever ...  For the record - ''Dark Side of The Moon'' , as good as it is, is not in the same league ...

A short break from the Top 10 to make apologies ..

I apologise to the following artists whom never got into my Top 10. First I'd say that it may not be a reflection on your album but rather that the albums I have chosen 1. meant allot to me at special periods in my life that I was open to new influences. 2. After a conversation yesterday, I realise it's not just albums that meant allot at a particular time but albums that I have consistently and will again come back to. It could also be that my taste in music is crap or that your album, though widely acclaimed or I wouldn't mention it at all, was ... laugh Lets get started ... this could take time. A. 'ACDC'. O'm mannnnn ... I'm sorry. You are fantastic and so are your albums. My only excuse is as a teenager I just didn't get it or the people that did, whom were an unfortunite misserable small group where I was brough up. I get it now .... 'All About Eve' . O'h 'Marthas Harbour' 'Arctic Monkeys' ,,, In my opini

Day 05: My Top 10 albums of all time in no particular order ..

I have seen The Pogues many times and been listening to them as long as I have been buying my own music. The best Pogues concert, actually it was a Shane McGowan & The Popes concert, I went to was in Belfast in a small club called Aunt Sally's (Think that was the name).  Shane was up to His usual trick of drinking on stage, on this ocasion a pint of strange coloured liquid ... who knows what it was. He did however hold it together enough to remember His text and unusually deliver a perfect performance. It must have been about 10 or 12 years ago and He could still actually sing pretty good. You gotta remember Belfast is pretty much home ground for The Pogues and the audience of overenthusiastic young Irishmen & Women went simply crazy. If only iphones were around in those days to record it. There was not a safe corner in the house and at least half of all alcohol bought from the bar was flung in the air. Multiple boddies were lifted and travelled simultaneously accro

Day 04: My Top 10 albums of all time in no particular order ..

An outstanding album that just grabbed everybodies attention ... even the Americans started listenning. From Spotify:  Portishead – Dummy (Please open Spotify while you read this if you want to listen inbetween reading) When you think of Northern England, where I was studying and living at the time, you have to appreciate there was a huge North-South divide when it came to Indie music. People from the North never listenned to anything South of Birmingham ,,, yeh there were exceptions for older music ... for Paul Weller , The Mod-father and I guess some others but that was generally how it was. When it came to Oasis & Blur, well my loyalty was firmly placed in the Oasis camp! So while I was happily playing The Stone Roses, Ocean Colour Scene, Oasis, Happy Mondays & so on at home ,,, I was however, sneaking off to House clubs at least a few times a week like Gatecrasher (just down the road), Rise @ The Leadmill ... trips to Pure in Edinburgh & Cream in Liverpoo

Day 03: My Top 10 albums of all time in no particular order ..

Everything Has already been said and written about this album. Many would claim that this was not there best album but they are wrong ... laugh ... It's a fantastic journey and I can only imagine it took an enormous ammount of work to create. The first song I heard from Simon & Garfunkel to really grab me was ''Feelin Grovy'', was not actually on this album but Bookends was the first album I owned myself from the amazing duo. The text on this album provides amazing imagery of the USA ... actually inspires me to jump on a Greyhound bus some day and do some people watching. I love this song, you can play here from YouTube. ''Old Friends'' Play From SPOTIFY From Wiki The songs The first side of the album is musically and thematically unified: it begins (and ends) with the brief guitar piece "Bookends Theme", evoking a "time of innocence", which moves immediately to "Save the Life of My Child" with the

Day 02: My Top 10 albums of all time in no particular order ..

Or from Spotify: The Stone Roses – Stone Roses The Stone Roses were credited for making the transition, or bridging the gap, between rock and dance music. For me the softly singing Ian Brown with literally magical lyrics and trance, rhythmic music behind Him with a touch of everything from rock, slow drum and bass (if that exists) to funk and house ... all achieved from a four piece band was so irresistible I literally was in love or at least felt I was. It's not that I looked up to the band or it's members or that I even cared particularly who they were. I wasn't even hanging out with similarly affected people or talking about it, it was just an experience ... I just got hypnotised! If it's possible to imagine what it's like to hear ''The Pied Piper'' and just follow behind in a happy trance then that's what The Stone Roses played - Pied Piper Music ... and not just for me; half of the UK were following behind me in a similar state, nobody

My top 10 of all time albums in no particular order ..

Or from Spotify: Transvision Vamp – Velveteen DAY 01: Though many an old favourite has fallen at the way side over the years, I just can't drop this one ... it's just too good! Transvision Vamp : Velveteen. Wendy James, in my opinion was probably the sexiest singer ever ... extremely short cut off jeans, cheaky Twiggy looks and a vulnerable but slightly husky voice. The album Velveteen is pure gold, easily as epic and dramatic as the likes of Meta Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell, culminating in the outrageous last track of the same name ... Velveteen. The production is also amazing - it's all about the voice with the music just puffing Her up when need be a only taking over in the quiet parts between Her singing ... instruments flow in, out and over each other; one instrument starting a ''sound'' and another taking it over and continuing it seamlessly. A little dramatic, Yes but it's also a masterpiece ... I love it!

Happy New Year!

Good news for Gothenburg stadium rock band Selsius who got signed by Gordon McNeil (Gogobot) label Toytownrecords Selsius played here in our shop last summer and gave us our largest audience to date with just over 100. Big congratulations to them. Selsius fly to the UK to record the album in February. The lead singer Jakob Hjulström is son to  Niklas Hjulström whom had a hit with I'm Burning featured on the Swedish TV drama, Glappet, which coincidently my Wife acted in. Small world! Great guys, very talented and I suspect they are going to do really well in the UK!
