Is HiFi technology moving as fast as the simple torch?

This torch lights up 400 meters, it is controlled by a microprocessor chip - a dual microprocessor chip, it has zoom and a special 'TIR lens', comes with rechargeable battery kit, has run time up to 100 hours ... it's waterproof to 2m, shock resistant, fits in the palm of your hand and costs 100 USD.

I have just been listening to my little AVA Maestro with it's machined from solid, aluminium chassis, 2 * digital inputs and 50W of power. It's as amazing as the little torch above and at a similarly insane price; in this case 2995 Sek.

I'm awaiting the AVA-Maestro big brother, the precision with 150W, slim design in an amazing machined from solid chassis, 4 digital and one analogue input and a remote that costs the manufacturer 42 pounds UK to buy in. It will sell for a little over 11000 Sek in Sweden and if the little brother is anything to judge by, it will outperform some HiFi at ten times that price. WHAT??

So for 100,000 Sek these days you can have a AVA super server with SSD (23ooo) which is also an APP controlled digital stream player, a CD ripper and of course almost unlimited expandable storage solution in an amazing chassis ... breath ... a super high end AVA HiFi (approx 11000) perfectly matching your super server with amazing LINN speakers, (11450) a huge, super-slim, low power, super-smart TV, (16000) which you can browse the internet, rent films, stream music and film, play games, read the newspaper and so on and so on ... breath ... you get a tablet (ipad/android) (3000) to wirelessly control everything ... breath again ... plus a trip to some paradise land with a budget of 30,000 Sek and a new & real Martin Guitar ... (5500) ... and a bloody torch that lights up to 400m

My friends ... the world is now very cheap!

Did I mention that for 250 Sek on 13TH April, you get a meal, a luxury beer and a LIVE performance from an international artist that has played The Whitehouse ,,, and for the Pope ... well the previous Pope and 100,000 of His friends ..

Our pleasure!!

My first impression of LINN's NEW Akubarik's

Firstly I am all in favour of compact systems so for me it's a great advantage that they are fully active. Technical information you can get from the designer on the following video link http://vimeo.com/search?q=akubarik I can pick a few points about the design. I don't like blue lights ... I'd hoped it would be smaller to fit more of my customers that have smaller rooms and apartments with neighbours. But actualythey look great, very tidy indeed. A good start and very interesting but how do they perform? The obvious reference systems are Akurate 242 Aktiv with LINN Akurate amps or Klimax 350A's reference speakers. Straight off the Akurate 242's can't compete on the bottom end. The Akubariks deliver controlled base no matter the volume. Whether the 3k array performs better than on aktive 242, I don't know but it's probably quite similar. It is very good. It's all very good and well balanced. At no point did I experience any issues with frequ...

Linn Katalyst ... New DAC architecture - NEW KLIMAX DS :)

“Shows a clean pair of heels to some of audio’s upper echelon with ease. It might even be the best of all of them … profoundly recommended."   Hi-Fi+ Magazine Our new Katalyst DAC Architecture performs digital-to-analogue conversion with greater precision than ever. Katalyst takes an unprecedented level of control over the critical elements that lie at the heart of the analogue signal’s creation; offering improved Data Optimisation, superior Master Clock, independent Power Supplies, a new ultra-low distortion Output Driver and crucially, for the first time, a high-stability input Reference Level. The latter is vitally important because, at the point of creation, the analogue audio signal is particularly vulnerable even to miniscule variations in the Reference Level, which cause irreversible damage. Katalyst’s high-stability input Reference Level eliminates variations during analogue signal creation, giving you a deeper insight into your music. Read more ......
