*'*PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE NOW CLOSED DUE TO INSTALLATION

A 'SUSPENDED-ON-SPRINGS' 50 KILO/m2 ACOUSTIC SOLUTION ALLOWING US TO MAKE SOME NOISE AND THAT'S JUST THE INTENTION. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR ''LIVE @ P&S'', KICKING OFF WITH RECORD RELEASE PARTY FOR MAEVE O'BOYLE 20 SEPTEMBER AND LAUNCH OF OUR NEW RECORDING STUDIO ROOM!

RING 076 007 12 81 FOR HOME VISITS TO TRY ANY LINN PRODUCT OVER SUMMER.

LINN KIKO is a new proposition from LINN expanding the range of  LINN DSM products. I have still to listen to this little beauty but there is no question about how promising it is.

Both speakers and DSM have aluminium chassis available in a range of colours. The DSM  uses digital power amplifiers with on-board DS player and pre-installed activ cards to run the two way speakers fully activ.

As with any LINN DS products it can be controlled by ipad, can stream 24 bit and appears as an apple airplay device for wireless play from Spotify, Youtube ... or can be used with the superior SONGCAST. Multi-room with Party mode, HDMi input ... the answer is yes to every function you can think of!

New 4 way cables from LINN are supplied and the product is sold as a package in one box with an installation wizzard.

The price is 28,000 kr and will appeal to existing high end LINN customers for extra rooms but I think this is a serious contender for the living room for any music enthusiast or modern home. Exciting!!!

I'LL BE USING MINES IN THE SUMMER HOUSE THEN TAKING IT TO MY BOAT AND THEN IT WILL WINTER IN MY KITCHEN :)

HOW WILL YOU USE YOUR KIKO?

Available now from Peoples & Schmidt ...

Kiko available in black, silver, white, champagne, dark blue and light blue

Mixing getting all mixed up ...

I am currently helping out with feedback for the release of an album from Ryan McDowell, a young talented singer songwriter from Glasgow. Though Ryan has recently played support for Admiral Fallow and has been twittered by BBC as a new hot talent he is currently unknown. His label has politely declined Radio 1 from playing his demo material preferring to release things properly. Promising!!

Ryan's album has now been recorded in the Amazing Gorbals Sound (5M UK pound studio which he shared with Susan Boyle for the week) and is partly acoustic and partly with a full band. The first song to be released has now been mixed by Gordon McNeil and also by the amazing Chris Potter whom has worked with artists like Pink, Sarah McLachlan, Brian Adams & Annie Lennox to name a few.

I already have Gordon's take and yesterday I received Chris's version. It took me twenty seconds to decide I liked Gordon's better simply as it was easier to follow, in less of a rush and though much less complicated or polished  ... like the artist ... it just made more of an impact, was catchy and quite bold!

Chris's job to represent Ryan with the piece is made so much more difficult when he has never met Ryan and doesn't know Ryans background. The songs delivered to his computer appear to be from a young enthusiastic musician starting out. Gordon on the other hand has known him for years, knows he's not ''that innocent'', knows he has an eye for the girls and sees himself as pretty cool. Gordon is therefore in a easier position to represent the artist with the music.

This is a very interesting twist for the use of LINN's 'Tune-dem'' method but actually it's perfect if it wasn't for all the other variables of making a record ... is the goal record sales and/or artist integrity? Which piece is easiest to sing along to is easily overshadowed by trends, how is sounds on the radio/iphone (NOT HIFI) and believe me so much of the result of the record you buy lies in the hands of the producer. The two versions are miles from each other, almost two different genre I would say!

To simply disregards Chris's work as the weaker of the two could be jumping to conclusions we are less qualified to make. Ryan wants to be cool, wants to be modern but Chris knows about the bigger picture.

Gordon's mix will be released as the single and Chris's probably as an extra version attached to the download for the album.

Think about all the great versions that are out their of classic albums ... all the amazing interpretations that were thrown away because the people making the decisions were inexperienced ... tailored solutions for UK but missed opportunity in the USA.

My last comment is that a mix can make or break a song, it's like taking your work of art that was 90% finished and picking from a bunch of other artists whom should finish it AND YOU ONLY HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO LET ONE DO THE JOBB ... EYHEKKKESSS!! The music business is crazy!!

Alan Williams (LINN Key account manager) moves on to 'warmer' markets ...

I met Alan a couple of years ago when he returned to Sweden as key account manager after the departure of Andrew Oates.

Pictured below doing what he does best ... Alan is truly amazing at trimming speaker positions. He is a nice man with a love for music, guitars and fat American cars.

It was a pleasure to work with him. Peoples & Schmidt and I personally wish him every success and happiness in the far east ... and a big thanks!

Big shoes to fill Barry ;)

Meave O'Boyle recording a new album with legendary bass player Laurie Cottle

**PEOPLES & SCHMIDT NEW NUMBER 076 007 12 81**

Gordon McNeil from GoGoBot is playing drums on the new record for Maeve O'Boyle and had this to say about Laurie ..
''We have the amazing Laurence Cottle coming up from London to play bass.
This guy is a genius!
He played bass for Eric Clapton and also recorded bass on Black Sabbaths "Headless Cross" album. Awesome!''
''Wowsers, what a day. Recording Maeves album and getting to play drums along with Laurie Cottle on bass .... In all my life, I have never heard a bass played so good!
... Feel, velocities, flavour and technique all just perfection''

#Gordon McNeil, Drummer (GoGoBot, producer, song writer)

Laurie was here in the shop last October playing 'LIVE' with Lady Claire Martin & Gareth Williams. Pictured here in our shop below with his fret-less bass behind Claire.

Maeve has sent some demo songs from the new album so drop into the shop if you want a listen. She is dynamite!!!! Great song writing and one of the best voices I ever heard ... an amazing young talent!

Christoffer Berg & Depeche Mode

"One reason for all this smooth sailing is the involvement of producer Christoffer Berg, who’s working alongside veteran Mode producer Ben Hillier. “He’s a great musician and has a lot of fantastic ideas,” enthused Gahan. “He’s not afraid to stand up and say, ‘I got an idea.’ I like that. It’s quite intimidating working with a band like ours because you have certain expectations of how it is. A lot are true and some aren’t. Martin [Gore] and I are open to other people’s ideas.”
Great stuff Christoffer but when are you back in our shop doing Klanger & Spår?? never mind those stars in NY ... P&S in Gothenburg ... that's what's important! Just kidding ... well done!
